Initially created in 1923 under the National Guard to help protect, defend, and aid the country, the story of the 45th Infantry lives on in the 45th Infantry Division Museum, where objects from the wars in which they served and other important events are displayed to the general public. Beyond its displays of World War II and Korean War antiques, the museum also has unique areas like the Bill Mauldin Cartoon Collection, depicting World War II soldiers created by a 45th Infantry soldier. Surrounding the museum is its 15-acre outdoor Thunderbird Park, displaying items like tanks, aircraft and large machine guns. Set within Lincoln Park, the museum is near the Oklahoma Railway Museum and the Science Museum Oklahoma.
